"The main objective of this project is wellness, but we cannot forget about the other aspect of this, and that is economic development for our community. Prospective new residents want to see the Hospital, the schools, the churches and the “COMMUNITY WELLNESS CENTER”. We want everyone’s support and look forward to the opening in July of 2010.”
- Richard Daberkow: Former 24 year hospital employee, past City Council Member, current Director of Operations Harlan Community School District, avid wellness and community supporter.
"In building the new Wellness Center, we have an exciting opportunity to come together and truly impact the health of our community and county. Medicine is moving from a history of reacting to and treating illness to an era of prevention and helping people achieve and maintain wellness. Whether we are giving children exercise options for combating the growing epidemic of childhood obesity or providing a comfortable, safe place for adults with diabetes or hypertension to exercise and improve their health, the Wellness Center makes sense. We here in Shelby County have a proud tradition of innovation and support of community projects, so let’s Dream Big together!" - Dr. Don Klitgaard
The community and surrounding areas of Harlan Iowa are on a quest to build a wellness center. This wellness center will enhance and enrich the lives of many. Myrtue Medical Center has all ready purchased a 5 acre piece of land directly across from the Medical Center for the structure to be built on. Because of the generous donations of many people this fundraising campaign is well under way. We have all ready raised $7.05 million but still need your help to make our dream a reality. Please consider finding out more about our campaign and consider how you can help.

“We’re excited and privileged to be part of this venture. Our gifts are investments in the lives of all of us – our community – our families- and our future. Please join us as partners in support of our shared conviction in promoting wellness.”
- Campaign Chairs Todd & Renie Plumb
